APPEAL UPDATE 24.09.20

As you know, Liverpool University Hospitals Covid appeal launched in April this year to offer support to our staff and patients during what have been unprecedented times. We as a team have been completely blown away by the generosity and kindness shown by you, our supporters to help us to make a substantial difference.

The appeal currently stands at an incredible £570,000 to date, having been contributed to over the months by individuals, businesses and grant making trusts. As you can imagine, many needs have arisen to ensure that our staff have improved environments to work in, and that our patients have facilities to make their stay as comfortable as possible during the Covid pandemic.

We are delighted to say that you have helped us to make things happen. Monies to date have been used to fund additional rest areas to enable our clinical staff to take comfortable breaks during extended shifts, and existing staff break facilities have been improved to provide them with everything that they may need to take some much needed time out. Patients have benefitted from recreational and comfort items to improve mental wellbeing during a time where visitors have been prohibited. We also have projects that we have committed to support going forwards including improved and additional staff changing areas to accommodate PPE requirements, and support for staff experiencing mental health problems arising from duties performed during the pandemic.

We really could not have delivered such support had it not been for our amazing supporters and for that we are extremely grateful. We continue to push forwards to provide a support service for our colleagues over the coming months, addressing needs that have become apparent more recently.

We wish yourself and your family all the very best and would like to thank you once again for your support.

APPEAL UPDATE 20.05.20

Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards the Support Our Staff appeal. Since its launch at the start of April weve raised more than £230,000 more than double our fundraising target!

This is in part thanks to the fundraising done by the families of two our of much-loved colleagues, Barbara Moore and Liz Glanister, who sadly lost their lives to coronavirus. Wed like to say a particularly heartfelt thank you to them.

The funds will be used to kit out wellbeing rooms for staff as well as buying essential supplies for those staff who find themselves living in accommodation away from their families so they can support the citys response to the virus

Ray Moore, whose late wife, Barbara, worked as a discharge planner at Aintree, said: Barbara would have been so moved to see how the work of her dear NHS colleagues is being recognised by local people and businesses. This crisis has shown us who the true heroes in our society are and if any good can come from it then I hope it will leave us with a greater appreciation of those who work so tirelessly to keep us safe.

Annmarie Glanister, whose late mother-in-law, Liz, was a nurse at Aintree, added: People working in our hospitals do incredible work every day, caring for people in their time of need, and this pandemic has shone a spotlight on that. People have been incredibly generous and I hope the funds raised by this appeal go some way to showing everyone in the NHS just how valued they are. There could not be a better tribute to Liz, and to the colleagues and friends she has left behind.
