Story
Who is Caring For Life?
Caring For Life is a Christian charity based in Leeds that seeks to support at-risk and vulnerable adults through a variety of different ways, and one way in which we do this is by offering therapeutic daytime activities at Crag House Farm, the charity's base. These projects encourage social interaction, build confidence and skills, and lead to improved mental health.
Equestrian Project
One such therapeutic activity is our Equestrian Project, which provides a space for beneficiaries to work with horses and learn equestrian skills such as how to groom, ride, and exercise the horses. The intuitive nature of these animals to recognise emotions in people makes "equine therapy" an increasingly recognised tool, in the treatment of mental health, stress, and anxiety.
The Need
In November 2020, because of some incredible legacy gifts and trust donations we were able to expand our project to house our 9 beloved horses.
However, very sadly, in the last few months we have lost 3 of our horses, James, Ypres, and Jess, due to old age and health issues and are now in great need to replace them. The loss of these 3 horses has meant we have needed to limit the amount of riding lessons we can offer and therefore the amount of time each beneficiary would be able to come up to the project.
Participating in this project has proven to be life-changing for many of our beneficiaries, especially for those suffering from various disabilities, emotional trauma, and those who are deeply isolated, so our hope is to replace these horses soon and once again open our project to full capacity.
How can you help?
We are seeking to raise £5,000 to help cover the costs of buying just one of the horses we need.
The horse that we are fundraising for is a mid-sized pony/horse, which will help us to continue riding lessons for both beginners and those wanting to develop their skills further. If we manage to raise more this will be an incredible help in supporting our Equestrian Project!
Our hope is that the other 2 horses we need will be able to be purchased through trust grants.
Please would you consider donating today and helping us to fill the huge gap that has been left through the loss of our 3 horses. We would be hugely grateful for any donation you can give, or for any fundraising you might do in aid of this need!
Please also help by sharing our giving page on social media or telling your family and friends so we can spread the news!
