Story

All monies raised via this campaign page will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society.

Preston North End Community and Education Trust Community Inclusion Officer Alistair White will be taking on a 24km in 24 hours challenge on World Alzheimers Day in aid of the Alzheimers Society.

World Alzheimers Day takes place on Monday 21st September, also forming part of the wider World Alzheimers Month.

Alistair oversees the Sporting Memories programme at PNECET, which caters for those living with dementia, depression and loneliness and has continued running via online Zoom meetings over the course of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Alistair is therefore taking on the challenge which will see him run or walk six legs of a 4km distance, all taking place at four-hour intervals from midnight on Monday 21st September until 8pm that evening.

The challenge will raise vital funds for the Alzheimers Society, the UKs leading dementia charity, which is conducting continuous research to seek a cure for dementia.

Alistair is also a registered Dementia Friend, which is an Alzheimers Society programme to increase awareness about dementia and change peoples perceptions of the condition, with the Dementia Friends programme being the key theme of this years World Alzheimers Day.

Speaking of his incentives to complete the challenge, Alistair said:

As a Dementia Friend myself and working on the Sporting Memories programme at PNECET, I wanted to do something to help raise funds for the great work done by the Alzheimers Society. Alzheimers affects so many people across the world, not only those who have the condition, but the friends and family members who care for their relatives as well. By completing 24km in 24 hours, one kilometre for every hour of the day, we at Preston North End want to show our commitment to those who are living with Alzheimers and dementia by completing this challenge to mark World Alzheimers Day. I will complete some of the runs at home and some at Deepdale, which will be a great motivation for me to keep at it throughout the day, and hopefully that can lead to further donations to help us support the great work of the Alzheimers Society.
