This bulla connects Norfolk to Rome, one of the most important places in the medieval world. Papal bullae were used to seal important papal documents, or bulls, attached with a string of silk or hemp. This bulla, found at Roughton, Norfolk, was issued by Pope John XXII in the early 14th century, and depicts his inscription on one side and St Peter and St Paul on the other. We can only imagine what sort of letter this bulla brought to us! The perfect item for anyone fascinated with the wider medieval world, or perhaps for a loved one living far away.
