Story

Over the last 20 years the RAB Trust has helped over 200 violin making students by funding the purchase of wood, tools and materials as well as organising work experience placements.

Your support is needed more than ever now, as students deal with the repercussions of the Covid-19 crisis and have to cope with reduced hands-on tuition, working instead in isolation at home. We hope that with your help, we can continue to support and develop the tradition of high-quality making and repairing of stringed instruments in the UK.

Miranda Scott was awarded a work placement for restoration with Iris Carr :

"...She ignited my passion for violin restoration and repair to the next level... she has inspired me to work at a much higher and professional standard..."

Eunjoo Lee was awarded carving tools by the RAB Trust:

....the head carving and rosette carving needed some very tiny chisels for making the shape of faces and some other details. I feel grateful for their support to help me to make my carving possible.

Sam Laming was awarded funding this year for a waterstone grinder:

Combined with the award last year for a digital Hacklinger gauge, the RAB Trust have been a huge factor in my progress from imagining what I'd like to do in the future, to getting there.

. ....the week was a great learning experience. The amount of information provided during the course was enormous!" Jahnava Garvallo

A few exceptional students have been lucky enough to be awarded a golden ticket to participate on internationally recognised short training courses in the UK and abroad.

Mathieu Fourrier on attending Oberlin Violin Makers Workshop in Ohio:

"...I cannot thank the RAB trust enough.... Living and working amongst so many talented makers was a truly stimulating experience..."
