Story
Student media has a rich history at the University of Essex Students Union, with its campus radio station, University Radio Essex, launched in 1968 and renamed Red Radio in 2006 - being a pioneering campus radio station of its time.
The SU in the past also supported both The Rabbit newspaper and the SX:TV television channel, allowing students to explore their interest in student media while celebrating the rebellious nature of Essex.
In 2016 Rebel was launched, bringing together radio, video and editorial into one big multimedia team in its new home: the SU Creative Studios, the facilities of which, featuring radios studios, a TV studio and editorial suite, demonstrate a level of commitment and investment in marked contrast to the days in which egg boxes on walls were used as DIY sound proofing!
We want to continue to support Rebel members to pursue different ideas and projects, so we have et up this page to help generate income which will give them the flexibility to do this.
Thank you for taking the time to read this page, and for supporting student media at Essex.
