Story

Rosie Taylor rides 300 miles in July in aid of SMART!

SMART member and ex-Suffolk Youth Music member, Rosie Taylor, was due to take part in the Prudential RideLondon event this August to raise money for SMART but, due to Covid-19, the event has been cancelled.

However, this is not going to stop our intrepid cyclist from getting on her bike. She is going to ride 300 miles - three times the RideLondon distance - in the month of July! All donations will go directly to SMART to help support the young people of Suffolk in their musical and artistic development.

What is SMART and how did it begin?

In October 2017, Philip Shaw, Head of Suffolk County Music Service, retired after 31 years of dedicated service to the young people of Suffolk. To mark his retirement, over 70 ex-Suffolk Youth Music members came together to perform in a Valedictory Concert. At this event, it was decided that an alumni charity would be created. SMART was granted charitable status by the Charity Commission (charity number 1177728) and the charity was launched to ex-SYM members and the public in July 2018.

SMART's mission is to relieve the needs of young people from Suffolk who have needs by reason of youth, in particular, but not exclusively, by the provision of grants to access or participate in art in its widest form, including music.

Your donations will help provide grants to young people to help them access high quality music and arts education and opportunities.
