SHOCC is the official charity of St Mary's University, Twickenham, and celebrated its 50th birthday in 2021. It was originally known as SHOC and concentrated on overseas projects. Since becoming a UK-registered charity in 2008, it has also helped local projects.
Since 1971, SHOCC has raised over £1 million for nearly 100 different projects in the UK and overseas. We have helped to develop four schools in Tanzania (£561,000) and, together with schools, families, and friends in Northamptonshire, we have provided fees for 40 orphans at two schools in Uganda (£182,000). We provided funding to construct St. Mary's hospice at Pajapita in Guatemala and have funded the purchase of 5 acres of land for an eco-farm and installed a hydrotherapy pool and solar lighting (£101,000) at the hospice. We have renovated the science laboratories at a girls' school in Kenya (£28,000), constructed three new classrooms at a kindergarten school in South Sudan (£179,000), and assisted other projects in Twickenham and further afield. We also raised over £10,000 to help project partners during the Covid pandemic.
For several years, SHOCC Trustees and supporters have taken part in the Shepperton Rotary 10k walk. We hold a concert in November at the university, and have raised over £20,000 in the past five years.
