Story
Sarcoma UK is hosted our inaugural annual Glitter Ball. We put on an ambitious event which brought sarcoma cancer patients, family and friends together to make memories and fund vital cancer research, support and awareness. This is where you come in, you made the night one to remember. Thank you for continuing to give generously.
We promised no liver pate, and we delivered a lot of laughter, dancing and entertainment. The incredible Sally Harrison, Ashley Louise James, Enchorus, and hosted by Bounder and Cad ensured that patients, friends and families had a night to remember. to have a look at the pictures please go to: https://www.facebook.com/pg/uk.sarcoma/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2720332071353856
If you haven't heard of sarcoma, don't worry 75% of people haven't either. A sarcoma is a rare form of cancer that can affect anyone, often children in any part of the body. Unlike breast, bowel, prostate and lung cancer, the survival rates for sarcoma patients have remained just over 55% five years after diagnosis. Research, support and information for families affected by sarcoma are limited because this type of cancer is so different from the most prevalent forms of cancer.
But It wouldn't take much to help sarcoma catch up with the progress made with other cancers. By attending or donating to the Sarcoma UK Glitterball you are helping Sarcoma UK achieve the £1.5million needed to kick-start the research project that will help increase sarcoma patient survival rates. As with any research project, there are no guarantees of the outcome. However, if the survival rate for sarcoma can be improved by 30% - to that of breast cancer this would mean an extra 15,900 lives saved over the next ten years. That works out at as little as £94 per life saved.
Sarcoma UK does not receive any funding from Stand Up 2 Cancer, Cancer Research UK or Macmillan and relies solely on the generosity of our supporters so bring a friend, the more the merrier. If you have any questions, please contact the event organiser at Sarcoma UK (Kerry.Reeves-Kneip@sarcoma.org.uk).
