Story

The Church of St John the Evangelist was built in 1879 and is a grade 2 listed building. It is the much-loved parish church for over 16,000 people.

To ensure the future of the church it requires urgent work on its spire and structure. The original iron band inside the spire has corroded and expanded and now needs replacing with a modern stainless steel version. You may notice that some stone has been removed from the spire to make it safe, but this needs replacing along with the addition of the steel ring.

This work, along with the rest of the structural repairs, is high-level work which will require expert attention.

The estimate is that this will cost £80,000 which the church cannot afford without the help of those in the community, local businesses, and grant-making bodies.

We need your help to guarantee the survival of this special building for the future.
