I am taking on a 223 mile cycle challenge to raise vital funds for Scottish Refugee Council's Covid-19 Emergency Fund. Join me along my journey and help support refugees in Scotland at this critical time.
From June 2020, I am challenging myself to an epic 223 mile cycle, to raise funds and awareness for Scottish Refugee Council's emergency Covid-19 Support Fund.
In 2014/15, my sponsored cycle helped raise over £1300 for their work supporting refugees in Scotland. The current pandemic, and the increased challenges refugees are now facing, has motivated me to take on a new fundraising cycle to raise much needed funds for individuals and families struggling today.
Covid-19 affects us all, but for those already facing poverty and isolation, the increased risks could be fatal. Every penny raised will go to Scottish Refugee Council's Covid-19 Fund to ensure that vulnerable refugees have access to basic essentials, urgent advice and practical support at this critical time.
The challenge :
223 miles is the distance from Glasgow to Liverpool. It is an arbitrary journey that so many people claiming asylum must make, in order to present information to the UK Home Office. This 223 mile journey represents just one of the many barriers refugees face every day, while navigating the hostile asylum system.
I plan to cycle ten miles a week on my trusty electric bike till I reach a total of 223 miles...quite possible within the current lockdown restrictions! I will keep you up to date with my progress, and hope that you will join me in solidarity with refugees in Scotland today.
Thanks so much for your support.
