Story

Over the last two years, care homes have faced unprecedented challenges. At St Joseph's Care Home, Coleshill, the dedicated care staff, supported by a host of people working behind-the-scenes, continue to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure those who live in the home receive the best support in the most difficult of times.

Throughout the pandemic carers arrived every day with a smile, ready to do their jobs - and to step outside their normal roles to ensure residents continued to live full, healthy and happy lives,

.Senior staff were trained to administer insulin to those who need it, while care assistants are took on hairdressing, exercise classes and organising arts and crafts to provide a range of activities. The chef and kitchen staff put on regular parties and themed events to give residents a treat.

They helped people stay in touch with their loved ones by video calls and sending photographs home, and set up a private Facebook group to share messages, photos and videos. This group quickly developed into a warm and supportive community for relatives and staff members.

The home remained open to new referrals, providing a safe place where new arrivals could self-isolate as they settled into the home. The Estates team built a Covid-secure visiting pod and installed wi-fi throughout the home for people to join in with Mass and other activities from their wings.

As the care sector continues to adapt to changing guidance, St Joseph's staff continue to put residents health and wellbeing at the forefront of all they do. They continue to rise to challenges admirably, always remaining committed to looking after the people living there, their families, and each other.
