Story
Reubens Retreat is a registered charity which was born out of the tragic loss of Reuben Michael Graham at just 23 months old from an inoperable brain tumour. His family launched the charity just 2 days after his death on the 23rd August 2012 in order to ensure that his short, but precious life wasnt in vain. Our mission is to relieve the distress of families bereaved of their child or those who have a child with a complex/terminal illness. We provide peer led monthly support groups, meditation evenings, weekend rambles, one to one counselling and holistic therapy sessions for parents & siblings as well as regular music & animal therapy, bespoke memory making and memorial events. We also arrange UK respite and bereavement breaks allowing families bereaved of a child to remember and rebuild and those with a complexly ill child to relax and recharge.
In 2014 we bought our Forever Home, The Retreat and have been renovating in stages ever since. The Lodge was completed in 2017 which is our bereavement support, well-being and counselling centre. We have recently completed our brand new activity wing which houses a hydrotherapy pool with changing suite, sensory room and play room with chill zone. Fundraising has begun for our final phases. Fully accessible apartments for families of complexly poorly children or families of loss to come and stay, enjoying fun and therapy whilst creating memories together. We are a small team of just 11 staff and to date, have supported over 1300 individuals.
