Having raised enough money through Just Giving and other grants, Leyburn Arts & Community Centre installed a sprung dance floor which is already being extensively used by the young people of the Dales Dance School of Performing Arts and the Sequence Dancing Group. We now want to provide the Dance School with large professional wall mounted mirrors to allow them to get even more benefit from the Leyburn Arts and Community Centre new Dance Studio.
Mirrors in a dance studio serve two main general purposesfirstly, teachers are able to see themselves and the students behind them at the same time, and secondly, the students/participants are able to see themselves while they are dancing.
The reason the mirrors need to be so big is that dancers need to always get a sense of the space around them when they are learning to position their bodies or while learning new moves. This is called Proprioception - having the sense of ones position and movement relative to others. They also need to be able to check if their hands and legs are in the proper positions, whether theyre in unison with others and where they generally are in the space.
We aim to give all our dancers the best experience possible and having these mirrors will certainly help us to achieve this.
