Story

Oxford Opera was created in 2017, with the aim of providing astonishing world-class opera for everyone. At first, we enjoyed a period of exciting growth, staging world-class performances of Carmen and La Bohème at the Oxford Playhouse.

Then the pandemic hit, hitting the arts hard. We received no funding support at all during the lockdowns and remain in a very fragile position.

The Magic Flute, which we have just completed, was the third full opera we have staged at the Oxford Playhouse. It was joyful, vibrant, colourful and immensely fun and it was wonderful to perform to such fantastic audiences. But severe cuts to arts funding meant The Magic Flute almost didn't happen. And even as we closed the doors on our final show, after performing to packed out shows all weekend, the financial future of Oxford Opera was still in jeopardy.

Our mission:

Oxford Operas commitment to this precious city of ours and our mission has only grown stronger: to continue presenting world class productions, featuring the best professionals, whilst also creating opportunities for our own city's young people.

Oxford Opera gives truly unique opportunities to our young people to share the stage with the established singing stars of today and the stars in the making. Who knows, we could all be watching the stars of the future at the start of their own journey into a career and life in the arts.

We have such exciting plans for Oxford Opera, including staging Tosca in March 2023, and all our work in the areas of Education & Outreach, Health and Wellbeing. But we need your support.

Any gift you can give today will allow us to:

- Attract the best professionals, on stage and off.

- Allow us to reach audiences new to opera, irrespective of their age - including our online programme of workshops developed during lockdown.

- Support our developing Health and Well-being Programme aimed at helping both children and adults who have been impacted long-term both mentally and physically by the pandemic.

We are a charity so, if you are a UK taxpayer, we will also be able to claim an additional 25% support from the Government. And donations will be matched, up to £2000.

Thank you so much for any gift you can give.
