Martin Nield's Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle Challenge

I have always enjoyed cycling, and this year have decided to challenge myself by taking on the iconic Lands End to John OGroats cycle ride - 1,000 miles in 16 days. This is a personal challenge, but it would be great to raise funds for charity too.

Story

I have always enjoyed cycling, and this year decided to challenge myself by taking on the iconic Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride. That is 1,000 miles in 16 days, which I am starting in early September. Although I am doing this as a personal challenge, it would be great if I can raise money for charity while I am doing it.

One charity I support is Friends of Tameside Young Carers, which raises money to provide treats to the areas 430 young carers, in the Borouigh. Young carers ages range from 8 to 18 and of those children there are over 100 under the age of 12.

I feel that these wonderful young people need all the help they can get, and if I can swell the coffers by a few pounds Ill be really pleased.

FINAL Update 19th September 2021

Made it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

"16 days, 1,043 miles done and dusted."

I completed the ride on Sunday afternoon.

Over 16 days I cycled 1,043 miles, 86 1/4 hours, average speed of 12.1 mph. I climbed 54,778 feet (16,696m), I wore out two full sets of brake blocks, but did not have any punctures or mechanical problems.

It was a fantastic trip, I saw some wonderful parts of our country, using cycle paths and minor roads, with only a few stretches on main roads. I didn't get ( too badly ) lost, only got soaked once and wet another time, and sunburned in the first few days. I only had one unscheduled dismount, which was entirely my fault.
