Torry is designated by Aberdeen City Council and Community Planning Aberdeen, the community planning partnership, as a priority regeneration neighbourhood; it also comprises some of the most deprived data zones in Aberdeen and Scotland. The data zone that falls within the proposed site area is one of the most deprived in Aberdeen City.

The effect of this deprivation on children is reflected through the proportion of school children receiving free school meals. At the school nearest to The Bridge Centre, 46% of children receive free school meals, more than three times the city-wide average of 15.2%.
