Save the Mother's Trust was Established in 2003 by a group of young people who shared the belief that people in poverty and hardship need the opportunity and support to become self sufficient and independent SMT is running various projects in a number of Third World Countries.

Story

Each family will be given 1 Cockerel and 5 Hens. Once the Hens start producing chicks, 3 chicks are then donated to another family to start the process. Other chicks and eggs are then sold and the money raised will go into a pot to help the family save to send their Children into education.

Families are expected to look after the Chickens and spot checks will be carried out.

The Process:

Our community officer will firstly go to the community and explained what we intend to do.

The community leader advises of which families are most deserving when it comes to distribution, i.e. the poorest of the poor and what short & long-term benefits this might achieve.

This is then discussed with the Trustees and a candidate family is chosen.

By the time the family get their 2-3 chickens they have been briefed on what the long term plan is and have to agree.

The family are expected to look after their chickens with a view to produce eggs for their consumption with surplus eggs sold to help the family live initially.

Eggs that hatch are done so to allow sales of chickens and these sales are for the purpose of saving for their childrens education.

Our representatives will do spot checks on each family chosen and any issues will be dealt with through the usual channels.

This project is also dependent on the chickens not getting diseases. Fortunately, the chickens are sourced locally and not usually susceptible to diseases but cant be ruled out completely. What we are doing will really make a big difference for these families.

If we can give our chosen families an opportunity to save and educate themselves, then once again we are helping them, through education, to earn and relieve their families from extreme poverty!

Why Chicken?

They are easy and inexpensive to take care of. Many breeds can eat whatever they find on the ground (although its better if you can feed them, because theyll grow faster). Hens need some kind of shelter where they can nest, and as your flock grows, you might want some wood and wire to make a coop. Chicken need only a few vaccines.

They are a good investment. Suppose a new farmer starts with five henn and a rooster to fertilize the eggs. After three months, she can have a flock of 40 chicks.

They help keep children healthy. Malnutrition kills more than 3.1 million children a year. Although eating more eggswhich are rich in protein and other nutrientscan help fight malnutrition, many farmers with small flocks find that its more economical to let the eggs hatch, sell the chicks, and use the money to buy nutritious food. But if a farmers flock is big enough to give her extra eggs, or if he/she ends up with a few broken ones, he/she may decide to cook them for her family.

Actions speak louder than words!

One who strives to help the poor is like the one who fights in the way of Allah (Hadith)

We care and are concerned for the many people around the world living in poverty. We need your help to get them medical assistance, as well as shelter, food and water.

With your Sadaqah Jaria we can help many whose partners have died and have been left stranded without any help or support.

What is Sadaqah Jaria?

The word Sadaqah comes from the root word Sidq which means truth, Sadaqah Jaria means continuous/ ongoing charity. Continuous charity is an action that remains active, even after the person who does it has died.
