The Dare to Bee Project started out as an idea posed to a group of UoH students. We were asked to come up with a plan and to make this project a reality. We never dreamed we would get this far but here we are.

Our journey began with an exploration of the topic, its problems and solutions and it is there that many of us fell in love with the humble bee and learned that in fact, there are over 250 species of them in the UK alone with many of them seeing massive decline in species numbers over the last decade. A fact that fascinates and upsets me specifically; as someone who loves all animals but has a specific love for the bee.

So far the Dare to Bee Project has begun its mission by engaging in community activities such as open days; where we sell our local honey and handmade jewellery. We were also invited to run a childrens activity day during the holidays, where we taught 12 children all about bees and thier habitats. This was a great oportunity to get out there and spread the word about our project and help 12 'eco-warrior' kids discover a newfound love for our buzzy friends.

The project has come a long way since its inception and has even developed its own retail division in order to sell our handmade merchandise and local honey verieties. It was our hope that we would be able to make enough money from merchandising to be able to start to build hives but unfortunatly this has not happened and so we are reaching out to our supporters for help.

The project is now at a stage where we can start building hives and deploying them to local communities in order to start our main aim of helping the disadvantaged and veterans through beekeeping activities, but we need your help!
