Opening Up The Museum Frontage & The North Laine Gateway
Brighton Toy and Model Museum regeneration project will bring light and life to the top of Trafalgar Street, Brighton making it the new gateway into the city from the station. At the same time, it will reveal the Aladdin's cave that is the Museum with its 12,000 exhibits. North Laine is a vibrant area, known for its many quality independent traders, but is often overlooked as visitors head straight from the station to the sea.
One of the first things visitors to Brighton see is a gloomy underpass daubed with graffiti and strewn with old posters and stickers. Its surprising to discover that this underpass houses one of the best collections of toys and models in the world!
The Museum, working with Benedict O'Looney Architects and the Railway Heritage Trust, has been granted planning permission to replace the modern brickwork which fills the 20 feet high Victorian arches with glazing to regenerate the area by illuminating the street and revealing its unique treasures.
With support from Railway Heritage Trust, the Museum has made it over the 50% mark. We are now fundraising for the remaining £50,000 and you can play a significant part in helping us achieve this target. We aim for work to start in Spring 2023.
Here are two great ways for you to help us to reach our goal:
