Story
The impact of Coronavirus is being felt across the world. But it is the poorest and most disadvantaged who will no doubt suffer the most.
The communities we work with in Sandakpur, Eastern Nepal are particularly at risk. Life there was already a daily struggle. The current lock-down has left families with no income and people are already struggling with food shortages and lack of essential medication." Luvana, Nepal Country Manager
These are people we know and care for. They are outside of the international media spotlight and could easily be forgotten, but they matter and we are doing all we can to protect them.
As a small, young charity we don't have the reserves to meet the demand. We need your help to send medication and food, so that our patients do not relapse, and their families do not starve. We know that this is a race against the clock - can you help us make it happen? Your donation will make a real difference to the lives of these people.
What else are we doing?
Emergency mental health helpline - people affected by mental illness are among the most vulnerable when a disaster strikes. We've set-up a free helpline in Nepal to take calls from people who are struggling. We've had particularly high numbers of calls from women experiencing domestic violence, as well as children. With your help we can expand the service to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Healthcare workers' support groups - In countries like Nepal, with very basic and severely understaffed health systems, health professionals are currently working in terrible conditions as they deal with the Coronavirus outbreak. They're incredibly fearful and anxious, and under enormous pressure. They lack resources and PPE, as well as up-to-date information. Tragically many are also facing terrible discrimination and even abuse from their own communities, who see them as carriers of the virus.
