The community of Umm Al Khair is under siege.
Lately, occupation forces have been using an old\new tool aimed at breaking the
steadfastness of the Palestinians of the village. This tool has crippled the ability of Umm Al
Khair residents (and, indeed, the entire South Hebron Hills) to freely move from one point to
another as the Israeli Police and Army started confiscating all of the vehicles in the area
under the pretext that they are illegal. Stories of girls, women, boys, and the sick being
stranded for long hours are abundant in the community due to the lack of any vehicles after
most of them were confiscated by the occupation forces.
To enhance the steadfastness of the residents of Umm Al Khair and to make sure that the transportation needs of its population are met, the Umm Al Khair Village Council, the
officially-recognized body representing Umm Al Khair residents, is planning to purchase a
vehicle for the people to use.
And this is where we need YOUR HELP as the village council has accumulated only dust in
its bank account since its establishment.
WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE to buy a new car for the community. Your donations would
be HIGHLY appreciated as we are hoping to raise GBP 65,000 for a suitable vehicle that can
be used to haul materials and provide transportation for members of the community in a
safe and legal manner.
We realise that this is a big sum, however the community need a 4x4 pickup truck to assist with hauling heavy loads quickly and for long distance transportation. These types of vehicles tend to be costly, and we are in need of a significant amount of funding to make this purchase possible. Additionally, the taxes imposed on car prices in the West Bank will almost double the price of the truck, making it even more expensive.
Amos Trust is administering the fundraising effort and HIRN will be the local contact with the village council.
