It's made me a lot happier. I suffer from depression a lot and coming out with Wild things! gets me into nature, which I love. It gets me with other people, which I'm also very fond of and I just love these days out. Anna
Silver Saplings improves health and well-being through providing opportunities for connection with the natural environment, offering lasting green prescriptions to participants of all ages but with particular focus on older people. Wild things! will create lasting change in communities across North East Scotland. Just some of the activities will include:-
Day Trips: Our day trip activities are carefully designed to ensure older people can confidently and safely access the safely access the outdoors whilst enjoying the benefits of time in nature, including activities such as rock pooling, watching ospreys and botanical drawing.
Care Home Activities: These activities enable residents with limited mobility to gain confidence and exercise outdoors.
Growing Wild & Well: Teenagers and vulnerable adults will gain confidence by undertaking an 8 day naturalist and practical outdoor course.
Little Saplings: We will provide inspiring 6 week health and well-being Forest School programmes for primary age children.
Silver Saplings key outcomes will be as follows:-
1. People build confidence to spend time outdoors
2. People increase their engagement with local natural environments
3. People build new social connections and support networks in their local community
4. People improve their mental and physical health
Coming out with Wild things! today has really helped my fitness. I find walking very difficult and you talk to people on the walk because they're walking very slowly with me. It has been wonderful and I hope to be able to come out again and maybe that will really improve my walking and fitness. Mo
UPDATE:- Silver Saplings Fundraiser update February 2020
A huge congratulations goes to Primal Kind, who successfully hiked and paddled the Great Glen Way at the end of Last year! This route took them through some amazing countryside between Fort William and Inverness spanning 120km and 3 lakes, including the infamous Loch Ness. Normally completed over 5 days, Primal Kind completed this expedition in 48 hours and 35 mins; hiking and kayaking whilst carrying all their kit!
What an unforgettable experienceour highlights were:- completing Loch Ness; night time kayaking and taking on the 12km fast flowing River Ness coming into Inverness. Most of all, having the opportunity to put ourselves out there for two great causes, Mind and Wild things!
An amazing achievement! Well done Primal Kind and thanks so much for supporting Wild things!
