Story

The Go Ability Trust supports adults with learning disabilities to make healthier choices, to get fitter and to enjoy regular recreational opportunities and exercise in the community. Through improving access and increasing availability, The Trust aims to empower these individuals to choose how they spend their leisure time.

With your help, we can make this happen.

Typically, the increased use of sports centres and other services during school holidays impacts on people with a learning disability. Additionally, the need for extra support means that the cost of living is subsequently higher and can thereby preclude access.

Vulnerable and isolated members of our society should not be excluded from leisure opportunities.

InclusLive Multi-Sport Sessions:

InclusLive Sport run exercise sessions for children and adults with a learning disability. This is in line with Go Ability's ethos for individuals to increase their independence whilst encouraging a love of sport and promoting an understanding of how to lead a healthy and fulfilled lifestyle. The flexible, person-centred approach offered by InclusLive ensures participants realise their full potential.

Go Ability have worked with InclusLive throughout 2018, and have delivered multi-sports sessions such as yoga, football, rugby cricket etc. to in excess of 90 adults. Over 275 hours of exercise has been achieved thus far.

Our long-term goal is to run these sessions every half term. Go Ability depends solely on fundraised income so your support will have a massive impact on the work we do. Read about our work with InclusLive Sport in the past.

Thank you for helping us make a difference.

One of the young men I have been supporting today has autism and is usually very shy, sitting at the back of the room it was great to see him really get involved this time! [Support Worker]

Some sessions like this are difficult when trying to get the balance right [for participants], but these sessions have done really well [Parent]

Participants have been so engaged in taking up the range of taster activities we had to offer, trying in addition to football and rugby etc., less mainstream activities like yoga, boxing and athletics. [Tom, InclusLive]

It was great to see individuals that do not normally participate get involved, engage in the sessions and have fun. The coaches show real interest and inclusion towards the groups. [Support Worker]

I think the whole week was brilliant! I love that it was so near to my house so I didn't need help getting home. [Participant]
