Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary

Winter Hay Appeal

Your support will help keep a horse fed and warm this winter. Not only is hay a nutritious source of food for horses and donkeys, it also acts as a furnace keeping them warm from the inside out - and costs are escalating.

Story

The ponies pictured are tethered on a short chain. They have no shelter, nor access to food or water beyond the length of that chain. Please help us to help them with our winter hay appeal.

In a horse, the hind gut acts as a furnace. It turns fibre into heat to keep them warm from the inside out. And hay is far more effective at this than grass, especially if the grass is frozen, which it so often is at this time of year. For those animals with few or no teeth, the alternative is fibre cubes, which are a special and nutritious blend of concentrated fibres to help support the horse and pony's digestive system.

You'll know from your own food shopping, how the costs are escalating and we're seeing exactly the same thing with hay, straw and feed. Please help us to help as many animals as we can over the coming colder months.

About the charity

Remus Horse Sanctuary provides rehabilitation and lifetime care for over 200 horses, ponies, donkeys, cows, sheep, goats and cats in Essex. We provide a safe environment for these animals that have been victims of physical and mental abuse, whether because of ignorance or malicious intent.
