We are continuing to raise money to help the Wodaabe Nomads of Niger and hope you will join us.
The nomads are still unable to take their cattle to markets which have been closed to stop the spread of Corona Virus. This has now been made worse by the fact that the seasonal rains have not yet come to the Sahel. Without the rainy season and the growth of pastures the water brings to the Wodaabes herds, they are further pressed to find food for their families and the animals on which their livelihood depends.
As before, we are raising money to enable the nomads to buy sacks of Millet, a life-saving staple that has become hyper inflated due to the closure of markets. A sack of millet, the staple food to feed a family which normally costs 15Euro/$16.50USD now costs 50Euro/$55USD. This provides food for a family for several weeks.
The Wodaabe Nomads are famed for their incredible all male charm and beauty pageants. They typically roam the Sahel of Africa, largely based in Niger. We have travelled with, lived with and photographed the Wodaabe Nomads since the 1970s and visited them again only last year. Their tribal elders have contacted to us with a heartfelt request for support to ensure their survival.
We are fundraising to help the Wodaabe Nomads. We invite you to join us and donate to help keep this wonderful group of people safe.
