As Christmas approaches, we are reminded of the warmth and joy that comes from gathering with loved ones, sharing meals and exchanging gifts. But for many older people, disadvantaged vulnerable adults and struggling families, this season of celebration is overshadowed by the harsh reality of the cost-of-living crisis.
In an area of the city with such high health inequalities, at Holbeck Together, we are seeing more people than ever facing impossible choices - whether to keep their homes warm or put food on the table.
We have set ourselves a target to fundraise £25,000 this Christmas to enable us to meet the growing demand for our support services."
Older people, many of whom are isolated and vulnerable, are particularly hard hit. With soaring energy bills, rising food costs and the pressures of daily living, their Christmas season may feel cold and lonely.
Families too, are struggling. Parents who want nothing more than to create a joyful Christmas for their children, find themselves worrying about basic necessities. No one should have to choose between heating their homes or feeding their families this holiday season.
Community support makes a real difference, especially in areas like Holbeck. Collaborations and shared efforts ensure that resources and support reach those who need them most, creating a stronger, more resilient community. Working together, we can continue to foster positive change and improve lives in meaningful ways. As you know we are the Community Anchor for Holbeck, South Leeds, providing social, health and wellbeing services, along with practical support for vulnerable people of all ages.
