Story

The revenue from the weekend (24 - 25 February) will be split between our four chosen charities. We believe this will help us support charities in the UK as well as building relationships with charities further afield which will last far into the future.

Our chosen charities have strong links to the Bryanston community so your generous donations will be used in beneficial ways by each of the following charities:

Ayati: The first charity we are supporting is Ayati and their centre in Sri Lanka. Ayati is the first and only centre in Sri Lanka for disabled children. The staff there have worked hard to overcome the stigma which exists around all types of disability in Sri Lanka. Ayati also offers opportunities for researchers to develop their understanding of some of the children’s disabilities by working on explanations, support systems, and treatments for them.

CAL: Child Action Lanka (CAL) is a charity closely linked to Ayati and the network of organisations in Sri Lanka providing after-school care for vulnerable children. With their seven centres distributed across Sri Lanka, the charity works closely with vulnerable families and their children, providing food, care and education. Through our A2 Charities weekend, we hope to support their plans to extend to new parts of the country so that even more orphans, homeless people, and victims of war get the help they require. We are aiming to buy a number of tablets to distribute so that we can connect with them in addition to their daily needs.

Beating Time: As well as this, we have decided to support Beating Time, an incredible UK charity that supports prisoners and returning citizens as they look to gain employment. The charity also looks to prevent reoffending, which is at 40% and costs the UK £18 billion annually. This is really important to us as we feel it’s not something Bryanston pupils often come across, and hopefully throughout A2 charities weekend we will all get the opportunity to learn about and support this growing issue. This video provides an insight into the work the charity carries out.

Marie Curie: Our chosen local charity is Marie Curie, an organisation that provides support and care for people (and their families) living with terminal illnesses. They care for patients towards the end of their lives across multiple special residential caring homes and offer bereavement services to those in need as well as a free nationwide listening service for people grieving the loss of their loved ones due to terminal illnesses.

We would encourage you to find out more about our charities and how your donations will be used to make real differences across the world.
