With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.

The Covington Middle School band and orchestra programs need your help! Two string basses, a concert marimba, two alto saxophones, six violins, and an upright bass are needed to allow additional students to enroll in the programs, eliminate instrument sharing, replace aged instruments that are beyond repair, eliminate borrowing from other sources, and allow students to practice at home.

“Nestled in the Orchards community of Vancouver, Washington, the Covington Middle School ColtsBand boasts an enrollment of 150 players in 6 ensembles including Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and two Jazz Bands. Students in the ColtsBand have scored superior ratings at district and regional festivals and have had top honors in area parades. Select students also participate in regional honor bands and solo/ensemble contests and Covington has been the host for our regional solo/ensemble contest for many years.” - Bruce Dunn, Band Director

Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through MHOF’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF). MHOF then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.
