Freedom Middle School Band Program

Freedom Middle School in Stone Mountain, GA needs support for their band program.

The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by donating musical instruments to under-funded music programs, and vital support services to school districts nationwide, giving economically-disadvantaged youth access to the many benefits of music education.

Story

Freedom Middle School's band program needs your support! In 2022, the program grew from 27 students to over 100, and it keeps growing. Because of the massive growth, the school does not have enough band instruments for every interested student. The program is in need of trumpets, clarinets, flutes, saxophones, and snare drums to allow every interested student to have access to an instrument, reduce sharing, and replace older instruments that are beyond repair.

The Freedom Middle School Ram Band program represents a very culturally diverse community. Freedom Middle School represents more than 50 nationalities. Our band programs enjoys performing music that reaches most of our students, as the band students keeping me up with the most popular music of our community. Some of our students don't even speak English as their first languages. But they love connecting music as a world language. The smiles the students show when we perform a latin piece, for example, is always so priceless. - Dr. Watkins, Freedom Middle School Band Director

With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.

Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through the Foundation’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The Foundation then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.

Donate today and help these students foster their love of music, every dollar counts!
