Legacy Middle School's band and orchestra programs needs your help! The programs are in need of alto saxophones, double basses, violas, double French horns, and violins to allow additional students to participate, reduce sharing, and replace instruments that are broken and aged beyond repair.
"The Legacy Middle School Band and Orchestra is a vibrant arts program in Orlando, Florida! I teach almost 200 exceptional students every day across seven class periods, including an orchestra class, two beginning band classes, two concert band classes, and two jazz band classes. With only 700 students total at Legacy, we are one of the largest groups of students on campus. We are a constant presence in our local community, playing for district meetings on campus, various school events such as pep rallies and Arts Nights, and performance trips to our feeder elementary schools. We routinely have students make both All-County and All-State and many of our students audition for and make the Performing Arts Magnet at University High School; we even have former students currently pursuing music degrees at Stetson University, Florida State University, and the University of Central Florida.
These great things are despite the great need my students have. Many of my students use school instruments and almost all of the school instruments were purchased when the school opened in 2005 and are either in serious need of repair or are beyond repair. Instrument repair takes up a large portion of my yearly budget, so I am reliant on finding other sources for purchasing instruments, such as grants and fundraising. Your donation will directly impact the amazing students I have the privilege of teaching every day and every dollar will help provide new instruments that will be used for years to come!" - Aaron McGarvey, Director of Bands and Orchestra
With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.
Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through MHOF’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF). MHOF then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.
Donate today and help these students foster their love of music, every dollar counts!
