With generous and transformative support from Eddie Van Halen over the years and now continuing through his son Wolfgang, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation is pleased to announce that the Van Halen Family has committed to kickstarting the Adopt A School campaign with a generous $1,000 donation towards each of the first 100 participating schools.

The Montezuma-Cortez Middle School band needs your help! With a school of about 500 students, and over 200 students participating in band, wind instruments are desperately needed to allow additional students to enroll in the program, eliminate instrument sharing, and replace aged instruments that are beyond repair.

“Montezuma-Cortez Middle School is located in the extreme SouthWest corner of Colorado, right next to the Four Corners Monument. We believe in inclusivity and diversity. We have a very large proportion of our students eligible to receive free and reduced-price lunch, yet most of those students participate in music. If a student cannot pay for a uniform shirt, a beginning band textbook, or an instrument rental, the fees are quietly waived so that all interested students can participate. We have made music an inviting and inclusive part of our school through band, choir, jazz band and piano classes. Schools participating in the Adopt A School campaign are qualified through MHOF’s vetting and eligibility process, giving donors confidence that their investment is protected and sustainable, impacting students for a minimum of 10 years (the lifespan of an instrument in a school setting.) Donations made to this school’s fundraising campaign go directly to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF). MHOF then purchases the specific instruments the school is in need of at a substantially discounted price and the instruments deliver directly to the school.
