Story

Support The Aplastic Anaemia Trust during February and March and help bring people affected by aplastic anaemia and other rare conditions together.

Every year people from all over the UK who are affected by rare bone marrow conditions join a community of fundraisers and take part in Super Rare! Will you join them in 2026?

Having a rare condition such as aplastic anemia can be lonely and people affected by it often feel isolated. Your family have never heard of aplastic anaemia, neither have your friends, GP, or nurses in A&E.

Aplastic anaemia is so rare, families often don't have access to the same information and support. In our recent survey more than a fifth of participants do not feel confident navigating the healthcare system.

When asked if they feel that general NHS professionals (outside of their core medical team) have knowledge of their condition, over half (59%) disagreed (31% ‘strongly disagree’; 28% ‘disagree’).

By joining in with Super Rare you have the opportunity to change this. This year we are starting an online training module for nurses, GP's and medical professionals.

Super Rare, our annual fundraising campaign, brings people together who live with a rare condition, such as aplastic anaemia, PNH and fanconi anaemia. It provides opportunities to meet other people who know what it’s like and understand.

This year we will also be creating new ways for young people to connect with each other and feel less isolated when the social media ban starts.

All money raised in February and March will go towards providing medical training and create connections for young people.

Raise £200 for The Aplastic Anaemia Trust during February and March and we'll send you a t-shirt so you can show everyone what a Super Rare Super Hero you are!

By organising a walk with a few friends, you could ensure that someone living with a rare condition gets the support they need from their medical team, by holding a bake sale you could build friendships and support networks for young people affected by aplastic anaemia.

Super Rare is our opportunity to step up, reach out and connect with each other. We’ll be organising various walks and events and we would love to see some of you there! Whether you’re living with aplastic anaemia, or fundraising for one of the other rare conditions joining the campaign this year, it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet each other and share our experiences.

Join in with Super Rare our annual fundraising campaign and celebrate Rare Disease Day (28th February) and Aplastic Anaemia Awareness Day (4th March).
