Why Abseiling?!

A big part of our mission is to support & connect families that are facing similar challenges. Overcoming difficulties in life can be tough, so we thought that creating an event that could help people face their fears would be an inspirational and rewarding experience for all, whilst raising much-needed funds to further our work within the community.

The minimum donation to take part will be £30 to cover costs but we hope that participants will raise more than this in sponsorship. £50-£100 would be a realistic overall target for each person. The minimum age to take part is 12 (unless previous abseiling experience). Mendip Activity Centre who will be providing the experienced instructors on the day say, "You will be guaranteed a thrilling mix of emotions and afterwards, an uncontrollable urge to do it all again"!

We have chosen a beautiful location in Somerset called Sandford Quarry https://www.mendip.co.uk/directions where you will face a 50 metre Abseil. There are wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and often wildlife to see too! An experienced instructor will brief you, ensure your harness and helmet are fitted correctly and explain the whole process before you take the step off the edge. A second rope is always used and controlled by your instructor, to ensure you are completely safe throughout your descent. We hope that friends and family will come to support you and enjoy some of the refreshments which will be available for a small cost on the day.
