🌊 Help Us Build Phase 2 of the All Abilities Boardwalk at Lunan Bay 🌊
Target: £50,000 | Charity: Lunan Bay Communities Partnership (LBCP)
Thanks to incredible support from YOU, our local community, kind donors, pro bono suppliers, and a generous National Lottery grant, Phase 1 of our All Abilities Access Project at Lunan Bay is complete. The brand-new viewing platform, installed on time and on budget, has already made a life-changing difference.
Now, we need your help to complete Phase 2:
👉 Replacing the old boardwalk from the car park to the new platform, creating a safe, fully wheelchair-accessible path for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy Scotland’s most beautiful, wild beach.
💙 Why This Matters
Before Phase 1, many visitors with mobility challenges couldn’t enjoy the beach at all. But today, thanks to your support, that’s changed.
“I’ve waited years to do this,” said one elderly local lady, tears in her eyes, watching her grandchildren run across the sand for the first time from the safety of the new platform. “Now I can be part of the memories too.”
We’ve also welcomed wheelchair users, families with buggies, and older couples, many of whom had previously avoided the area due to lack of access. People have told us the platform gave them back a part of their lives.
But currently, access from the car park to the viewing platform remains unsafe and difficult, especially for wheelchairs, walkers, and pushchairs.
We can’t stop now.
🚶♀️ What Phase 2 Will Do
Replace the worn, uneven stretch of boardwalk with a safe, weather-proof, all-abilities path
Enable wheelchair and pushchair users to access the new viewing platform safely
Build on our success and complete a joined-up access solution for everyone
Open the beach to more people, from locals to visitors of all ages and needs
🛠 How We Delivered Phase 1 – Together
Phase 1 was a community triumph.
✅ Planning permission secured
✅ £10,000 worth of materials sourced
✅ Build completed by RM Condor, Mitie & their contractors, 100% pro bono
✅ Design and engineering by Mott MacDonald, donated for free
✅ National Lottery ‘Awards for All’ grant awarded
✅ Local supporters raised funds, spread the word, and gave their time
This is what community looks like.
💷 Why We Need £50,000 Now
Materials and accessibility-compliant structures cost money. We’ve kept costs lean by securing in-kind labour and design support again, but building costs for the boardwalk are estimated at £50,000.
All funds will go directly toward:
Eco-friendly, non-slip boardwalk materials
Accessible fixtures and finishings
Installation by qualified volunteers and partners
Planning application costs inc topographic survey
