Sri Lanka 2025 Cyclone relief

Since 28 November, the devastating cyclone struck Sri Lanka, has caused severe mud slides and flooding in Sri Lanka which also resulted in severe travel, electricity, and communication disruptions causing island-wide resulting fuel and food shortages

Story

The worst predicted cyclone passed through the North, on Saturday 29 November 2025, causing further misery & destruction.

Hill Countries are the worst affected with the continuing loss of Electricity, Communications and access to transport.

Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Gampaha being the worst affected with many mudslides and the loss of lives. Electricity and communications are being restored but most affected interior areas are still not accessible.

Mutur was cut off due to breached rivers, and several villages are under water.

Flood water, and cyclone issues continue & we have received requests from remote villages and are assisting severely affected people:

2. ⁠Around Batticaloa

3. ⁠Around Trincomalee, and Mutur

4. Around Kilinochchi

5. Hill Countries

On Monday 01 January 2026, at 10 AM SL time, Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported that

1. 638 people lost lives

2. 175 (further) are missing

3. ⁠Over 354,000 people are affected

4. 24,431 people are at 264 safety centres

5. 178,865 are displaced, staying with relatives / friends

5. 6,956 Homes fully damaged

6. 112,522 Homes partially damaged
