Action Tutoring is a national education charity dedicated to supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment, with a view to enabling them to progress to further education, employment or training. We do this by harnessing the power of volunteers.

Story

Year after year, the data tells us that education in this country is not equal.

Pupils from low income backgrounds have as much will, want and determination as their more affluent peers, but often lack access to the tools and resources that help them achieve.

Action Tutoring’s vision is for a world in which no child’s life chances are limited by their socio-economic background.

The difference in outcomes between disadvantaged pupils and their peers is large and persistent. At Action Tutoring, we are tackling this gap head-on.

In 2025, Year 6 pupils we supported closed the gap in reading after ten or more sessions, meeting the expected standard in their SATs at the same rate as children who were not from disadvantaged backgrounds nationally.

Tutoring improves grades.

Every child has potential.

Your family’s income should not determine your chances of success.

By donating, you are contributing to children and young people receiving targeted small-group tutoring in maths and English, opening doors to brighter futures for those facing disadvantage. Thank you.

“When I found out I passed my GCSE maths, I didn’t believe it. I looked twice at it as I was just so flustered. It was a massive sigh of relief and all the hard work paid off. I didn’t believe it for days. I really have passed my GCSE maths.” Dylan, GCSE pupil, 2023
