At Age UK Exeter, our Sycamores centre is a cherished community hub where over 200 older people each week enjoy essential day services, craft groups, information and advice, group singing, and Qi Gong. It’s a place of friendship, support, and wellbeing for people living with dementia, frailty, and complex health needs—as well as a valued resource for their families and carers.
Our central boiler, which ensures the entire building stays warm and welcoming, has reached the end of its life and needs replacing. As our CEO, Nicky Flynn, explains:
“Sycamores is a lifeline for hundreds of vulnerable older people and their families, providing a safe, warm, and welcoming environment. The boiler is unlikely to pass its next service, and while we remain hopeful, it’s important we act now to ensure comfort and continuity for everyone who depends on us.”
If we don’t raise the £15,000 needed for a new boiler by April 2026, we will need to use vital reserves to cover the cost. This would reduce funds available for our frontline services, which is something we want to avoid.
