Story

The chaplaincy team at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust are raising funds for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity during the period of Ramadan this year and are hoping to fund a specialised wheelchair for Airedales Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which is due to open later this Spring.

This year, Ramadan begins on Saturday 2 April and ends on Sunday 1 May with the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, worship, and charitable giving observed by Muslims all over the world.

Aziz Rehman, Imam in the chaplaincy department at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said:

Myself and the rest of the chaplaincy team have decided to run an appeal and encourage staff, patients, and visitors at the Trust to donate to an important project for the local community, and support patients that are treated on Airedales ICU.

We encourage people to gain the most reward by giving in the month of Ramadan.

The chaplains decided to raise funds specifically for a Rea Azalea wheelchair for Airedales new ICU which is over and above standard NHS provision.

Every aspect of the wheelchair and seating system is adaptable for the best level of support and postural management, so can be customised to suit the needs and comfort of each individual patient.

Some of Airedales chaplains began the celebrations with an information stand at the hospital, where people could come and talk to them about Ramadan, how the chaplains support patients and staff, and other health-related information relating to Ramadan and fasting.

Airedale Hospital and Community Charity is the official NHS charity for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The charity supports the Trust to invest in patient care and employee wellbeing so that everyone that needs Airedales services receives the best possible care.
