It is stated in the Holy Qur'an, 'They will build the mosque of Allah, those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakat, and fear none but Allah. So hopefully, they will be among the rightly guided. (Surah: Tawba, verse: 18)

It is mentioned in the Hadith Sharif, "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, Allah Almighty will build a similar house for him in Paradise." (Bukhari, Hadith: 450) Also, building a mosque is a sadaqah zaria, whose reward continues even after death. As long as Allah is worshipped in the mosque, the builder gets its reward.
