Alma has spent the last 3 years unable to walk on an injured leg, help us end her agony and give her the surgery she needs to finally put her paw back on the ground.
We first met 8 year old retired Greyhound, Alma, in December when she limped through our front gate and was admitted as an emergency welfare rescue, as it became clear that she was not receiving the proper care she needed. Alma had been living in a stable outside with only hay and straw to lie on, she would get very limited human interaction, she was being fed a poor diet which included a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast and she had been suffering with a lasting injury from fracturing her hock in 2021. Despite being told she received treatment for this, it was clearly not properly healed, leaving her unable to support herself with it and as she couldn’t move around properly, she now had pressure sores covering the underside of her body.
Our vet discovered that she has a ruptured Achilles tendon, so we started her on pain relief and fitted her with a medical boot to make her more comfortable and she is now staying in foster care so that she can finally have the love and care she so desperately deserves.
With the help of a specialist clinic, we have an appointment scheduled in March for Alma to see their Head of Orthopaedics for surgery to finally correct her leg and get her walking again. This operation is vital to improve Alma’s quality of life and end the pain she has been suffering for 3 years. We have been quoted £4,125 for this treatment and we are determined to find a way to cover that cost, so we need your help to raise as much money towards it as possible.
Please help us be able to truly rescue this incredible dog from the traumas of her past and allow her to discover what a dog’s life should really be. Every pound you can spare will bring Alma a step closer to walking, to running, to living again.
Thank you.
Update 03/04/25
We are thrilled to say Alma had her surgery on Tuesday and it went really well! The vet was not able to completely fix her leg, but he has fused it which means she will be able to walk without pain which was our main goal. She is not back in her foster home where she will begin the long road to recovery, she is doing really well so far.
Update!
Hello everyone, thank you so much for your incredibly generous donations, we can't believe we reached our target so quickly. Alma's surgery is now scheduled for 1st April and we will let you know how she gets on and how her recovery goes. In the meantime, Alma passed an incredible milestone in her foster home this week, she came up to sit on the sofa with her family! This is a big step in confidence and trust for her and her fosterer's were so excited, they sent us this lovely photo of how happy she is.
