Amberley Museum showcases and preserves the rural, transport, industrial and communications history of the south of England for the learning and enjoyment of today’s visitors and future generations. We engage with the community, providing opportunities for volunteers to support the Museum.

Help us tell the story of wartime telecommunications heroes

Amberley Museum is home to one of the most significant collections of communications history in the UK, but there is a crucial part of the tale that is waiting to be told.

During the First and Second World War, Post Office workers were vital to the war effort and to the development of communications technology. From the messenger boys delivering telegrams to homes, the switchboard operators working through the blitz connecting vital calls, and the innovators developing new telecommunications technologies which helped win the war - there are countless stories waiting to be told.

We are now looking for your help to tell those stories as part of a new exhibition. The new displays will explore the technical evolution during wartime and the resulting impact on society. We will also feature stories of the many thousands in the budding ICT industry who gave service both on the battlefield and the home front - especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Post Office Remembrance Fellowship has generously offered a grant of £400,000 to support this work and we need to raise additional donations in order to complete funding of the project.

Please help us keep this important story alive by donating whatever you can to our project. All funds will be used to develop and enhance the display of the collection. Donations of £250 and upwards will receive a mention on our ‘honour board’.
