As you may know, after Alex's first successful trip to Lviv in Ukraine last year, we found all the work done by not only the ICMDA but by so many of the people in Ukraine so inspiring that we felt we had to do more.
We know that the situation in Ukraine is still dire. But the ambulances and all the medical equipment we took last time were put into use immediately. However, there is still a massive problem with transporting casualties from the frontline to casualty evacuation centers before they can be transported to hospital. And this is where 4x4 pick-ups and quad bikes are so invaluable.
We plan to buy pick-ups and quads and load them with as much medical equipment as possible, so your kindness and generosity will once again be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
DETAILS OF OUR FIRST FUNDRAISING EFFORT
We all know how desperate the situation in Ukraine is but sadly it is fading from the news somewhat. We also know that this will bring many more civilian and military casualties. It is also well known that treatment in the first few minutes/ hours of a casualty incident is critical to their chances of survival.
The country is desperately short of all things military and this is clearly the role of international governments. However, they are also desperately short of ambulances and medical supplies.
This is where we ALL can make a meaningful difference. Through various contacts, and with the help of the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA), we can equip ambulances with vital medical consumables via donations. I am also hoping to purchase up to three ex NHS/MOD ambulances to transport directly to Ukraine. I have another contact who has already successfully sent 18 vehicles to the Ukraine and he has offered his help with logistics.
Financial backing for fuel, insurance etc. to drive the vehicles directly to the border has already been secured from a client of Rathbones.
I am hoping that we can raise £15,000+ which should enable us to purchase up to 3 ambulances, equip them (via pre arranged donations) and drive them to the border. I need a means to hold the cash and purchase the vehicles (at auction) and also pay for fuel, insurance, documentation and recovery. It is for this reason that I am making use of my Charitable Trust to collect donations, and the Trust itself will also make a meaningful donation.
Using this method for donation also means that those of you with CAF accounts can easily make a contribution. We could, of course, funnel all this through a national charity, but doing it ourselves means every penny donated - and more - will be spent on the vehicles and supplies.
Thank you.
