Southern Access Improvement Project at Astbury Mere

Project to tarmac footpath at the southern entrance to the Country Park and to install two dropped curbs to enable better access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Astbury Mere Country Park is less than a mile from the town centre, run by a charitable trust and funded by donations. It's home to a variety of wild life and is used for activities including strolling through wildflower meadows with great views towards the Cheshire and Staffordshire Moorlands.

Story

This project is the responsibility of Rob Minshull who was the Chairman of the Astbury Mere Trust until he retired in 2020 and who is now the President for Life.

Since the park opening in 1991 Rob was responsible not only for the administration and management of the park but also for most of the improvement projects there. This project will be his last and has already begun seeking funding.

This footpath which goes down the bank on the Southern entrance to the Sail Sports Centre at the Astbury Mere Country Park was left unfinished by the Construction Company of the housing development at Mere View.

This project is to finish the footpath with tarmac and to install dropped curbs at both ends so that wheel chairs can get into the park safely. The cost is expect to be approximately £17,500 and will be undertaken in the spring/summer 2025.
