The Silverlining Charity works passionately and tirelessly to support the brain injured to find purpose, meaning, and connection following their injury. The rehabilitation journey can be devastating and presents a complex constellation of challenges including physical disabilities, cognitive impairment, psychological distress, vocational loss, and social isolation. Unfortunately, in the face of these challenges, many members of the Silverlining and their families struggle to cope and are often left isolated in the community in need of support and guidance.
The Silverlining Charity was founded in 2006 by Dr Sherrie Baehr, a consultant neuropsychologist and expert witness with more than 30 years of experience. Through her experience of seeing clients struggle with community integration following intensive rehabilitation, Sherrie realised the significance and importance of working towards projects helping the brain injured to find purpose and meaning, to sustain and propel their rehabilitation and continued health over their lifetime.
Since our first meeting in a small office in Harley Street, the Charity has grown substantially. Prior to the pandemic, we were supporting approximately 800 Silverliners across seven regions in London, Oxford, Surrey, Sussex, Birmingham, Bristol/Bath and Cardiff. However, since the pandemic, we have developed an online presence with nearly 700 Zoom meetings so far with 918 hours of direct support and more than 6000 attendees throughout the past year.
The Silverlining is very activity focused, and this ethos assists and supports those with brain injury and their families to achieve their goals. We aim to show everyone that they are not alone and that even in the face of almost impossible adversity everyone can achieve their goals. Silverliners help each other to attain goals whether that is a physical activity, raising money for a charity dear to their hearts, or just keeping a close circle of friends. This is not just inspiring for the injured and their families, it amazes and inspires those who are lucky enough to encounter us.
Please donate so we can continue to support the lives of those living and working with brain injuries!
