An Osprey Nest For An Osprey Village
Ospreys have nested around and about Boat of Garten. The Boat of Garten Wildlife Group with help from the Cairngorms Trust are keen to build an osprey nesting platform in the Milton Loch area to allow an osprey nest within closer proximity to the village to be a possibility. Milton Loch is a key community woodland, Lochside and wildlife area within Boat of Garten.
The project will also build Golden Eye Boxes along the loch side, repair the sluice gate to enhance the water levels for fish and birds and improve the interpretation around the walk to let folks know about the habitats and fauna they are walking through.
Excitingly the group are planning series of community (and visitor) willow weaving workshops to create "The Ark of Caledon" living willow sculpture. this will tell the tale of how the osprey was lost to Scotland, how and when it returned and why Boat of Garten became known as the Osprey Village.
The Boat of Garten wildlife Group applied to the Cairngorms Trust to become one of their Campaign Projects for 2019 - 20. Roger Clegg, Chair of the Cairngorms Trust said:
I am delighted for the Osprey Project in Boat of Garten. It is a great community initiative and will enhance the lives of both locals and visitors alike. It is a very good fit with the aims of the Cairngorms Trust which is pleased to be able to support this excellent community initiative.
