Story

Empathy is the highest form of Capital.

We thrive only when everyone else does.

DID YOU KNOW?

That right now, millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger. Why cant 4 million people get the food they need? Poverty, Conflict, inequality and rising costs of living keep life-giving food out of reach.

MLSS is dedicated to ‘Serving Humanity’ also known as Sarbath da Bhalla (Blessings for everybody). MLSS are based in multiple towns and cities helping those in need committed to saving lives of malnourished children and supporting their families to beat hunger. The mobile hot food (LANGAR) services run not only here in the Midlands, but all over the UK and internationally too. Globally over 192,000 meals are served every month to those less fortunate, as well as clothing, toiletries, hats, gloves, sleeping bags and blankets. Our teams also signpost and support those who are in need of accommodation.

With the current costs of living there are families who are having to choose whether to eat or pay their bills.

The MLSS Community Hub, provides a weekly bread, fresh fruit and vegetable collection point for those in need which helps support not only physical health but mental well-being too.

Every week over 25 elderly women who suffer with social isolation are able to come in and use the community hub facility at no cost. This is a place where we promote inclusivity and togetherness, tackling the stigma around mental health and social isolation.

The hub accommodates over 40 less fortunate children every school holiday, where they are able to come in engage in sports, arts activities, outings and trips and hot food. These are children who have never had the chance to eat out or even go on local trips.

MLSS are committed to driving change, with the hub being based in the top 5% of deprivation in the UK, gang culture and knife crime are at an all time high. We have our very own Catalyst for Change – a group of youth workers who patrol the streets, encouraging youth to put down weapons and take up boxing this not only changes lives it also saves lives.

This hub is about building healthy bodies as well as healthy minds.

MLSS have a far reach expanding all the way to India.

India has more than 80 million people living in extreme poverty, earning less than £1.50 per day. Schools are in dilapidated conditions, lacking basic sanitation facilities, girls often dropping out of school after puberty due to lack of toilets. Child marriage, child labour, malnutrition, high mortality rates, and disease are common, inexcusable sufferings of communities in India.

MLSS is all about Sarbath Da Bhalla – Dedicated to ‘Serving Humanity’ with love and compassion, seeing everybody as ‘ONE’.

Together we can drive change by walking as a unit to help those in need.

Our work is wide and varied covering all aspects of looking after orphan children, elderly people, and less fortunate families.

We have set up 2 school facilities which accommodates over 400 children which will take a child through from primary school to adult hood. Most of these children are from the slums, previously so malnourished, who had no hope other than being labourers. Today these children are thriving, healthy and most importantly are happy.

Our care home, currently cares for elderly destitute people, who have complex needs and disabilities. Many were left to rot in their previous unhealthy environment and sadly we have even lost some. We have carried out the rituals, from what a family would do from the funeral, providing the service in accordance to their faith and beliefs. This is a home for all where we have all religions and faiths under one roof. We do not see Muslims, Hindus nor Sikhs we see HUMANITY.

MLSS will always provide humanitarian services in times of crisis, such as droughts, fires and floods. With the recent floodings which took place in Panjab, our mobile team and medical clinic travelled to villages administering to those in need. The team also distribute monthly food parcels for less fortunate families across Panjab as well as providing life saving operations for those who had lost all hope. The team also help less fortunate families who face financial difficulties to get their daughter/s married as this is considered a huge burden.

This is just a snapshot of some of the projects MLSS run. We need your support for Sarbath Da Bhalla – lets all walk for UNITY. This year it will mark 10 years since the first walk took place so step into kindness, stride for change! Join MLSS's Annual Walk for all these causes. Every step you take brings hope, every mile covered makes a difference. Together, we can turn compassion into action. Lace up for change and join us on Saturday 25th May from Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, West Bromwich Street, Caldmore, WS1 4DE. Walk with purpose, walk with heart, walk for a better world. Your steps matter – let's make them count!"
