Story

🌿 Help Us Create a Therapeutic Garden at April House 🌿

At Hampshire Community Eating Disorder Service, based at April House, we support people from across the county who are living with eating disorders — as well as the families and carers who walk alongside them.

The lived experience of an eating disorder can be frightening, overwhelming, and deeply isolating. For many, coming to April House is a big and emotional step — sometimes the first time a family seeks help together.

We want to make that experience as supportive and welcoming as possible.

💚 Our Vision

We are lucky to have a garden space at April House — but right now, it is neglected and underused.

With your help, we want to transform it into a peaceful, restorative outdoor space where:

Service users can take time out in a calm and safe environment

Families and carers can find a moment to breathe during difficult visits

Therapeutic group work can take place outdoors, supporting recovery in new and meaningful ways

A welcoming garden can offer something simple but powerful: space to pause, reflect, and feel a little less alone.

🌱 Why This Matters

Recovery from an eating disorder is not just about treatment — it’s about creating environments that feel safe, calming, and hopeful.

For many people coming to April House, this garden could be:

A quiet place to gather strength

A supportive space to connect with others

A gentle introduction to therapeutic activities outdoors

🛠️ How Your Donation Will Help

We are incredibly grateful that a carer has volunteered their time and expertise to help bring this project to life.

However, we need funding to cover the materials needed, including:

Plants, soil, and landscaping materials

Seating and safe, accessible pathways

Garden features to create a therapeutic and calming space

🌼 Every Contribution Makes a Difference

No donation is too small. Every pound brings us closer to creating a garden that can support recovery, connection, and wellbeing.

By donating, you will be helping to create a space that offers comfort and calm during what can be one of the most challenging times in someone’s life.

🙏 Thank You

From all of us at Hampshire Community Eating Disorder Service — and from the service users and families we support — thank you for helping us bring this garden back to life.
