Story

A Life-Changing Fundraising Challenge!

We are excited to announce an exhilarating experience that combines extreme adventure and fundraising in an unforgettable way. The Arctic Circle Trek in January 2024, is an epic expedition that promises to challenge limits and ignite the spirit of adventure.

The buddies will embark on the challenge of a lifetime as they seek to raise funds for the St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation.

Kate Cooper, Ryan Laurie, and Gayle Brannigan are set to walk 65 kilometres in temperatures as low as -40 as they trek the Arctic Circle.

The trio – including St Mirren Women’s coach Kate, and long-time supporter of the foundation Ryan – are all very familiar with the charity’s impact on the community and are determined to raise as much money as possible.

Landing in Finland on January 29, the trekkers will be guided through two days of training and preparations before embarking on the three-day trek on February 1.

They will cover distances of up to 28km per day while trekking over frozen lakes, up snowy hills and across thick forests before camping out in tents overnight. It will test them to their limits but also, Gayle hopes, offer the adventure of a lifetime.

The trio will be guided by experienced company Breaking Strain which has a strong record in the Arctic and has already had several meetings with the team. The trek, however, would not be possible without the support of Clarity Accounting.

The business – founded by Paisley businessman Donald Gilmour and wife Katie – has sponsored the trek, meaning even more of the money raised will go directly to the foundation and its lifeline work.

About the charity

Since our re-launch in Nov 2018 we have focused on delivering programmes within Renfrewshire which fulfil our key objectives, answer the need of our communities and are aligned with the spirit of St Mirren FC’s own ‘Our Town Our Team’ ethos, putting our people first. We understand the social challenges many Renfrewshire residents face and we are committed to implement long term, sustainable positive change to help provide them with a brighter and more hopeful future. We understand the responsibility we have in our community, the important role that football plays in the lives of the people in it and the power our beloved stadium has as an engagement tool for the programmes we deliver. Developing positive and purposeful partnerships with local authorities, third sector organisations, commercial partners and fans is important to us and essential in helping us to choose the direction of our strategy going forward. Our work supports people of all ages, capabilities and backgrounds as we are entirely inclusive and fully aware, post pandemic, of the need now more than ever to help empower our people and rebuild more resilient and resourceful communities.
