In Bangladesh, millions of children grow up without care, safety or education. Mothers are forced to choose work over supervising their children, while older sisters give up school to look after their younger siblings. This is how poverty is silently passed from one generation to the next.

The PATRIZIA KinderHaus Mymensingh breaks that cycle. Each year, 200 disadvantaged children receive an early education, older siblings return to school, and mothers are able to work.

What makes the concept behind the building so special is that, once completed, it will not only house the child care centre, but also rental apartments, a training centre for sewing and IT professions, a health centre, a pharmacy and a shop selling organic products from a local farmers’ cooperative. The income covers most of the local partner’s running costs for the daycare centre.

Support services for 60 families, courses for 100 mothers and a cooperative for 160 women will create additional impact and ten skilled jobs for women from poor families. Through early childhood education training for surrounding schools, the centre is becoming a multiplier that will reach thousands of children and families in the region in the long term.
